We understand firsthand that individuals who are aspiring or current medical students with chronic illness or disability may have questions or thoughts about navigating medical education.
MSDCI’s mentorship program was founded due to a lack of perceived support for students who identify as a member of these groups, both within medical education and within the healthcare system.
Our free program matches premedical and medical students with other medical students who mentor them through the challenging process of becoming a physician. The program is centered around 1:1 peer-mentorship interaction between mentees and mentors who identify as a part of this community. The program runs in 3-month cycles. Our only requirement is for each pairing to meet at least 3 times within that time frame, which can be set up at times that are mutually convenient. Conversations between mentees and mentors may cover a wide range of topics from residency applications to preclinical accommodations, as we understand each mentee comes to our program with unique needs and experiences.
Our long term goal is to facilitate lasting connections between individuals in our community, support them wherever they are in their journey, and ultimately increase the diversity of the next generation of physicians.
